Being an altar server is a great privilege and responsibility. Altar servers serve God by assisting the priests and deacons during Mass and other liturgical events to ensure that they run smoothly. Students ages 10-17 are eligible to join this ministry and become more involved in our parish community!
Responsibilities include:
- Arriving 20 minutes before Mass.
- Assisting the Priest/ Deacon in the sacristy to prepare for mass
- Lighting the altar candles
- Bearing the cross & candles during the processions
- Assisting in setting the altar for the consecration
- Preparing and using incense for special masses and Holy Days
- Commitment to serve 2-3 masses per month, more frequently during Holy Days(Christmas, Easter, etc)
- Dress code: plain white shirt or blouse, black bottoms, flat black shoes(no sneakers)
- Required training: 2-3 training sessions and occasional workshops. New servers will shadow more experienced servers for their first few masses until comfortable with their responsibilities.
